BASIC STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES FOR EDITING

Unless otherwise specified by the client, Pullar Productions adheres to the following Franklin Covey Style Guide standards and guidelines.

Purpose (Do the readers know what they are going to read & why?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    Each section of the document begins with a statement of purpose.

Content (Are industry & experiential standards met? Can the reader easily identify the main messages?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    a) The document conforms to standards and guidelines
    b) Detail and "big picture" are in balance
    c) The document defines what the reader should do or know

Logic (Are the message components logically connected?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    a) In all appropriate places, the document presents conclusions and assesses their significance
    b) Information is consistent from one portion of the document to another
    c) All conclusions clearly evolve from the data presented

Organization (Does the reader find key message in emphatic positions? Can the reader find information easily?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    a) Each part of the document begins with a summary overview
    b) Text is organized deductively, from general to specific
    c) Organizational devices guide the reader and improve access to information
    d) The document has a consistent internal format and organization

Context (Can the reader recognize the context of the information being presented?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    a) Information is place within a process or industry context
    b) The relationship between the information is this documents and other is clear

Presentation (Can the reader easily comprehend the information presented? Are verbal and visual techniques used effectively?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    a) Information is presented in the most appropriate visual form (text or figure)
    b) The graphics are high quality and clearly related to the text
    c) Emphasis techniques help the reader access important information

Language (Do language mistakes distract the reader?)

  • Measurement Criteria:
    a) The reader does not have to interpret
    b) The message is conveyed through good writing techniques and concise language (aka. Style and tone)
    c) Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are correct
